Summer Group Service

We host teams from churches, schools, and colleges to serve in our summer programming at both our Overtown and West Homestead Sites in the summer months for one week of service Monday-Friday.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

Your team will serve alongside our year-long TML instructor staff as well as our paid high school youth interns in our summer camp.  Summer Camp details:

  • Six weeks at two sites: Overtown and West Homestead
  • Children K-5th grade (Overtown)
  • Children K-5th grade (West Homestead)
  • 8:00am to 6:00pm breakfast for all students is from 8:00-9:00am
  • Field trip or Special Event each week

TML Summer Camp is filled with tons of learning and fun and is an important component of our year-long programming.  Below is a sample schedule from a past year to show the following rotations. Groups of students divided by age rotate through each day of summer programming.  Your team will divide up between being in a group or as leaders of group activities.

Children participate in the following activities each day and your team can sign up to serve any of these rotations: Devotional Time, Visual Arts,  Fitness, Computer Time, Structured Free Choice (games, reading, drawing), and Enrichment (these are themed activities led by our volunteer teams).

Social Skills and Literature sessions are solely led by TML staff members.

DAYS AND HOURS OF SERVICE

We have a mandatory orientation on Sunday (time TBA) with service days Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 4:45pm.  Your time of service ends at 4:30pm with 15 minute daily de-briefing with our staff.

GROUP SIZE

We appreciate teams up to 20 people (youth and chaperones) for our Overtown Site and up to 30 people (youth and chaperones) at our West Homestead Site.  We require 1 chaperone for every 8 youth under 18 years old.  We ask that no team member be under 14 years old.  We are sorry, but we can not accommodate children in summer service. Groups larger than 30 can be split between our two sites (groups can house together).

REQUIREMENTS TO SERVE

SCHEDULING: If your interested in seeing if a particular week is still open, contact us!

CONTRACT: A signed contract with expected group size, week of service, and the site is required before your week can be booked.Once we have confirmed that the week is open at the site of your choice, we’ll email you a contract.

DEPOSIT: A $250 deposit is required with your signed contract.  Payments can be made via check payable to Touching Miami with Love or online via our website.  We ask that you consider covering the 3% cost of processing online payments.

COST: Our cost per person is: $50.00 for team members 14 years old to 17 years old and $65.00 for team members 18 years old and up as a background check is required.  Costs include TML t-shirt, entrance to the field trip or aids to off-set cost of Special Event, Wednesday’s Community Cookout meal, background checks for those 18 years old, and administrative costs.

REQUIRED SPRING SITE VISIT: ALL new team leaders are required to do a spring site visit at that site of service.  These are held between February and April. We require you be present for one full weekday.  We prefer to host one day per site.  Inquire when you return your deposit as to the date of the Site Visit for your site will be held.

ACCOMMODATIONS: We have partnerships providing reduced costs for accommodations for your group.  Please note the following are only our recommendations, groups are responsible for their own travel, lodging, and food.

Overtown Site: SpringHill Suites Miami Airport East 1311 NW 10th Avenue, Miami, FL 33136.

SpringHill Suites provides accommodations of 5 people per room with free breakfast.  Each suite-style room has a microwave and mini fridge available. Large conference rooms are available to reserve for your group for a day or the week–ask for availability when you book.

One Day Group Service

We host teams from companies, churches, schools, and colleges to serve for one day for volunteering with children and youth, hosting special events or work projects at both our Overtown and West Homestead Sites all year long.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

We can tailor a one-day time of volunteering with your group.  Here are just some ideas:

CHILDREN’S PROGRAMMING

  • Group Time with children for tutoring, homework help, and reading buddies
  • Special Events: holiday parties, Guest Chef or any of our other Community Outreach Projects
  • Chaperoning a Field trip during our all-day programming on Teacher Planning Day

throughout the week our children take part in\Literature, Visual Arts, Social Skills, Fitness, Computer Time, Structured Free Choice (games, reading, drawing), Devo Time, and Enrichment.

YOUTH PROGRAMMING

  • Informal Time with youth catching up, building relationships, sharing life
  • Homework Room: tutoring, homework help, and helping with school projects
  • Special Events: Holiday Parties, Guest Chef or any of our other Community Outreach Projects
  • Chaperoning a Field trip

WORK PROJECTS

  • Painting
  • Landscaping
  • Organizing
  • Cleaning
  • and other helpful projects

DAYS AND HOURS OF SERVICE

Service opportunities are available Monday through Saturday between 9am and 5pm for 1 1/2 hours to 4 hours.  We have a limited number of Saturdays available for work projects. Sorry, we do not host any groups or special events on Sundays. Please inquire as to availability for your requested day of service.

COST: Service days are FREE, but we ask that you help with the cost of supplies for work projects.  T-shirts are available for team members for $10 each.  We ask that you request these prior to your date of service to ensure correct sizes are available.

REQUIRED SITE VISIT: If your team is serving for more than 2 hours, we kindly ask that you send a representative to come on-site to walk through your day of service details to ensure a smooth experience.
